Vacancy: Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE)


Project Officer
sought to work on EU-Funded Projects.
Location for the post will be the Secretariat of the ACE in Brussels, Belgium.
Contract will be for a limited duration of 10 months, possibility of renewal for a second period of 10 months starting 1st September 2010..
Conditions to be negotiated and dependent on the skills and experience of the successful candidate.
Minimum qualifications required are successful completion of Masters level (Bologna) degree course in architecture and experience of environmental design of buildings.
Languages; the successful applicant will be fluent in both English and French and highly competent in writing in English.


The Architects' Council of Europe (ACE) is the European organisation representing the architectural profession at European level with its headquarters and Secretariat located in Brussels.  Its President for 2010 is Mrs. Selma Harrington, architect from Ireland. Its growing membership consists of Member Organisations, which are the nationally representative regulatory and professional bodies of all European Union (EU) Member States, Accession States, Switzerland and Norway. Through them, it represents the interests of about 480,000 architects. The principal function of the ACE is to monitor developments at EU level, seeking to influence those areas of EU Policy and legislation that have an impact on architectural practice and on the overall quality and sustainability of the built environment. The successful candidate will be a fully qualified architect holding a University level degree equivalent to a qualification listed in Annexe V.7 of the EU Directive on the Recognition of Professional Qualifications (2005/36/EC) and fully eligible to live and work in the EU. He or she will be fluent in both English and French and will be highly competent in writing in English. He or she will also be fully conversant with information and communication technology including new media and interactive means of working. At a minimum this will include proficiency in the word processing, number processing, presentation programmes and web-based research and work.

He or she will have a good knowledge of international environmental assessment methodologies such as LEED, BREEAM and DGNB. It will be an advantage if he or she has experience of sustainable design of buildings at both the design stage and/or during the use phase.

At the present time the duration of the contract is likely to be 10 months with the possibility of an extension for a second period of 10 months.

The successful candidate will work on EU-Funded Projects in which the ACE is a partner and will be responsible for the technical input required of the ACE in those projects. It is likely that the post will require a limited number of business assignments abroad. The successful candidate will be under the direction of the Director of the ACE, will report directly to him and must be ready to assist in addition duties as the need arises.
